We are a non-denominational church that invites people to be themselves and to ask questions. We believe that truth, whatever we call truth, can handle scrutiny and questioning. Truth will hold up, while most dogma withers away in the spotlight of questions.

In recent years the idea of faith has morphed into certitude. Where there is certainty there is no need for faith. This is why we don’t presume to have all the answers, in fact we embrace the mystery of many things called spiritual.

We do have three truths that are held without question though, they are:

  1. God is Love
  2. God is Light
  3. Jesus is Lord of all. Everything else is questionable.

We believe that truth, whatever we call truth, can handle scrutiny and questioning

The concept of ‘God is Love’ is the keystone to our 20+ year history. This love is beyond human comprehension and yet it is taught by and demonstrated in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. It is described by the Apostle Paul throughout his writings but especially in 1 Cor. 13.

This love is unconditional, altruistic, others centered, self-giving love; it is irrevocable, inescapable and for all people. This love, we believe, is the gospel message’s foundation. As described above and demonstrated by Jesus this ‘God’ love is inclusive (not exclusive). Inclusive love is the way of the kingdom of God, while exclusive love is the way of everyone else. (More on this in the ‘About us’ section). We chose to follow this love way.

‘God is light’ is a beautiful metaphor that goes beyond my words here today. Suffice it to say that light is a constant that doesn’t change. We have a God that doesn’t change. This God of love has always been this God of love, always, forever and ever.

Finally, Jesus is Lord! This is the truth! We don’t make Jesus Lord. If we could that would make us Lord. Jesus is Lord and we chose to follow Him and His ways. The challenge of modern churchianity is the task of truly following the Jesus way. Jesus literally taught and demonstrated a love and acceptance of non-Jews, unclean women, Samaritans, lepers, tax-collectors and more.

With Jesus as our Lord we choose to follow His ways and His ways alone. This means you are loved and accepted at Lakeland Believers Church not because of your perfection but because of your humanity! Following the Jesus way is the way of enemy love, un merited forgiveness, an absence of an us vrs them mentality and more. Following Jesus is the greatest challenge any human will ever accept. The Jesus way is contrary to the world’s way in so many ways.

The worlds way is the way of selfishness, greed, lust; it is the way of me, myself and I. The Jesus way is the way of service (even toward the outcast and downtrodden). The Jesus way is the way of enemy love, and loving your neighbor as yourself. I’ll say it again, the Jesus way is a lifelong challenge to take and at LBC that is our challenge to you.

With Jesus as our Lord we choose to follow His ways and His ways alone.
This means you are loved and accepted at Lakeland Believers Church not because of your perfection but because of your humanity!

If you are looking for a community of people more concerned about making the world a better place while improving your personal well-being, then check us out. We are not trying to win a popularity contest or poke anyone in the eye with our questions, we just want to love our neighbor, whoever that is and continually improve in that area.

To sum this up; we believe God is love and this is an inclusive love; we believe God is light and is a constant source of Love; we believe Jesus is Lord and are committed to following Him and His ways.

Week in and week out we will present ideas that will encourage you and inspire you to walk the Jesus way and to allow the Spirit of God to help you do just that.
